Annotated Bibliography x 2: Read through at least two of the Microsoft Word Assistance instructions located at: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/CH790018161033.aspx. Try to select two that you think will help you with materials you are developing for this course.

Which two did you read?
I read about opening documents and troubleshooting image borders, shading, etc.
Why?

Well opening a document is easy enough but I wanted to see how they handle it. And Troubleshooting instructions are my biggest pet peeve since most documents to answer what I want. JUST right now I accidentally hit the Insert button and when I typed other text would disappear, though I didn’t know the button I pressed. So I tried to search my computers help documents and it was NO HELP! I tried all sorts of search keywords and was not helped!!! I figured it out on my own :P!!!
What did you learn?
Random information! Both topics actually weren’t that bad! I enjoyed the well organized site, AND in the troubleshooting, instead of loading a new page it displayed the quick fix once you clicked the link, right below the link. This was really surprising since the only flaw for Microsoft is HOW SLOW their website is! Garsh! And to think about the people who don’t have higher then a 56k modem ;.;!!!!
How will you apply it in the class or in future writing situations?
It’s nice to know that Microsoft has such a well organized site, I tend to remember these good sites that I like, for future reference when creating my websites. I tend to surf the internet to find good websites so that I can use their ideas or similar styles!
Furl the assistance pages, and post your annotated bibliographies with an individual reflection about the each assistance in your blog.
I don't enjoy FURL... so maybe I should create my own linked page. if you realized Furl no longer makes it easy to furl without the button. And I still refuse to use it. Same with Myspace, I deleted it, I felt to exposed and people really take things more seriously online (hence me)
5. Writing Project Reflection

Yes I wanted to thank who ever edited my writing project. I didnt know what I was doing but they gave me great ideas, they werent judgmental and I felt like i was going along the right path basically. I feel alittle better about this class... I almost dropped it, but then remembered how much the book cost!!!

6. Think about the profession you want to go in, or the one you are already in. Of the product-oriented communication situations discussed in Chapter 11, Concise Guide, which ones regularly occur in your profession? Discuss at least three different regularly occurring product-oriented communication situations in your profession. Analyze each situation in terms of the rhetorical situation.

With web design, communication is KEY! Basically the product in web development is the website its self, or a database, or graphics. It’s important to be able to get together and express CLEARLY what is needed to create your product, display it and sell it. What ever it may be. Good ways of keeping that communication are EMAIL, Instant messaging and Phone.

7. Write a blog responding to question #7 (pp. 77-8) in Ethics in Technical Communication. Conduct your analysis of our other textbook, A Concise Guide to Technical Communication.

Its extremely important for ethical standerds. These days nobody cares where they grab images or information. But now a days it is getting easier to find where they got that stolen information from!!

due 19 or something yeah~!!!!

            1. Did you know most problems in life, most grievances are created by miscommunication. I have a Nintendo DS and a game called Animal Crossing. In this game you own a house and live as a community member. This game is also accessible via wireless internet while in game play. Well Nintendo sent out a gift to everyone on New Years day. Everybody who was online with their game received this gift, the ONLY problem was, Nintendo didn’t tell anyone they were going to do this, and the gift they sent out was a BUG!!! They accidentally sent out a flower that wasn’t compatible with the game! People started to doubt WIFI(wireless internet), started worrying about hackers, and doubt Nintendo. Finally after calling their 24 hour help hotline (yes for games) they told me it was they them selves who sent it out and not a hacker!!! If they had planned this out or even made more accessible information on the subject us users wouldn’t have been so scared!! Cause I’m still a little shaken up over it!!!

                        Chapter8

Ah my favorite thing in the world! Page design. I really believe in making a page design the best it can be. Did you know every page has a newspaper fold on it! What is that you ask? It’s the point that no client will read unless forced or maybe they wont at all!!! On a website it is the bottom half of the page you dont see because u need to scroll down, so remember to put all important information on top, keep it quick and to the point. If a user wants to know more, then place a link for more information. Also images, if a page or document is too heavy in images, who would I want to go there unless it was an art related website?! Keep it simple, clean, precise, professional and good looking and you cant go wrong, AND keep that important information above. Do you know about the rule of 9 items? A human brain can not keep more then 9 items (on average) in short term memory. SO keep 9 links or top topics in the top half of the page and have sub links beyond each link or topic.

2.

http://www.art-machine.com/3DReel/index.php

He has no real cover letter which is a minus but he has a simple easy to use website, and all though the layout is fairly well done, I don’t think the links should be underlined, its almost as if someone else made the page for him and let him make the table for his resume. Although I noticed his resume was the same as most of my classmates, mine was stupid, I don’t know what I’m doing!!!

                        5. I always focus on organization and layout. Making sure the most basic user can read my resume at once glance and see where things are and what they want to know. I also believe in capture! Capture your audience with something original or more unique!!! One thing I really liked about his resume was his choosing to put some artwork on it, now he can focus his readers attentions to almost exactly what he wants them to see!!!

6.

Language, culture, and background are important to how you design your webpage. If by some mear chance you can make it to the Japanese version of Sony's playstation site (due to the abhordanent amounts of flash) you will notice that most MAJOR links are to the right of the page and games that are new are to the right but in the english version more links are to the left while major games are to the left as well!!!

8.

I have a tendency to write things quickly and then they look and sound horrible! I have a scattered brain. When I rewrite it’s a terrible mess, BUT if I work slowly at first I never get anything done!!!

Due sept 12th oops!!!

            1. Reading Reflection

            Chapter3

The book is dry but with good information. It’s kind of redundant and most things I already understand and know. It’s human communication that I am most interested in, how does someone read a page. What is the easiest way for me to lay out a page for a user? These chapters are about the technical stuff, make sure to find out the age, make sure to use the right audience. I KNOW! So needless to say I am looking forward to future chapters!!! Between Passive and aggressive writing or speaking, passive is if you are talking to someone who is willing to bend. Also passive language is used when someone doesn’t have any idea which side to undertake. While aggressive language is used to further pursue someone who has an idea. They are already committed and can handle a more aggressive language!

            Chapter5

Okee dokee. This is a bad chapter as well, first they teach you deprecated html, <c> is and has not been used! PLUS if you really want to read the best darn article on writing for the internet read THIS!!!

            http://www.useit.com/papers/webwriting/writing.html

Given to me by my Web design teacher. Woo woo!

            Chapter7

Interesting chapter. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT boys and girls!!!! Now a days there is sooooo much out there so BEFORE you make a website, or write that pamphlet make sure you study and find if there is any copyright that you will be breaking or your data is too much like someone else’s. If it is a small project that not many people will see, don’t waist your money hiring someone to check these things out, instead just research your self, BUT if it is a larger company, hire someone (usually a lawyer) to make sure you are legally safe!!! AND don’t be lazy people, do your own work!! Sheesh! Nothing like going to 2 websites with the same info, it can be good but if I don’t feel safe, I’m not going to go to those websites anymore!!!

            2. I definitely use writing processes when doing papers. But not all the time. I should. One project I am working on right now is my Harry Potter website. I started out using a web developers design steps for any information etc. The first step is to write out a general plan, like writing an intention paper. Then right out the general points to your website, including everything that will be in it, but very general, that would be an outline. From there grab all necessary information and make those your paragraphs. This is working really well since I am making a crazy complicated website that young children (esp. parents) will need to understand!!!)

            3. When creating a job application it is important to weed out those who would not mix well with the job at hand. If you are asking for a specialized or higher paying job, ask for a cover letter, some places even go so far as to ask their clients to write out an essay, rather then a formal application! Make sure that your client KNOWS what is needed for this job, will they live to far away, what they will be doing and the hours the job needs. Make sure that they even sign off or check mark abilities they can and can not do. Id make sure I knew what employee I would want, that PERFECT employee and design the application to be catered to those people. So that I got out the right information that I need!

            4. Post Job interview message.

            I’m confused!

            6. Alright! In my future job there are 3 main ways of communication that are used regularly though out!!! Chat! Numero uno! Chat, or IM (instant messaging) is the hot thing as they would say. There are 2 types of instant messaging. There is the application that you download and use when you start up your computer, for ex. AIM, yahoo, windows messenger, my space messenger. Then there is browser based messaging, which is an internet messenger that usually has a longer lag time. The second type of communication is email, this takes longer then IMing. Though you have more time to compose a well written email and is used more often for technical things or companies then IMing. The third is message boards. Those also come in 2 different types. The first is for any body to post (who is allowed access) and any body can reply, so your answer varies, the second is a help-desk message board specifically for you and your provider of merchandise.

Work due today or yesterday...

Post a blog discussing how you understand the rhetorical situation. Discuss experiences where you recognized the impact of audience, purpose, and context on how someone was communicating.
Well this is quite understandably an easy question if I interpret it well. It’s quite obvious that if I just start talking about space, and how a solar system actually spins too fast and would be blown apart if it were not for the ‘alleged dark matter (which I believe in)’ to my customers at my job, most would be annoyed because it has nothing to do with their groceries, and they don’t care. Also if I found someone to listen to me and was interested I would have to make that statement a bit simpler. For example, when you spin in a circle you eventually fall backwards because you spin to fast. Or remember when you put a stuffed animal on a ceiling fan, if it spins to fast it will fall off, it’s the same thing with the solar system. Now, people who don’t know much about science can understand the ‘too fast’ idea! In another case, I met a man who was actually going to school for theoretical physics, and everything I said was old news and didn’t interest him, until I started to add some more technical language, but even then, I have very limited English, I wasn’t a match to talk to him about much, accept to listen. :D On top of all of this I must remember to talk in a way that people will want to hear, or type something in a sensible way to have people want to read what I type. (Typing coherently is harder for me to do then talk!) So with a customer who is interested in the solar system, I would talk to him as if I was just learning about the science so that his interest would peak and be excited with me, but with the man who knew more, I acted as if I was a student, allowing me to make mistakes yet still gain his respect.

Post in a blog your ideas about what makes a job application packet (especially a cover letter and resume) accessible, usable, and relevant?
I’m kind of lost here... I would suppose that a relevant application would be one that fits the job. So for a burger company for entry level work I really wouldn’t need a resume attached because my past jobs could easily speak for them selves. If I wanted a managerial job I would add a resume to my application. A job that requires special knowledge (or if asked) I would add a cover letter. I honestly think a cover letter is a great idea to quickly add an idea of who I am and my near most goals. As for the other way around, am I the company hiring? Well I would need a lot of information to make a complete application packet, I would need the usual demographic information, their background information, jobs, and everything relating to those jobs, specialty work, schools, specialty schools, military or army work, and a small questioner on the technical side of the job. With all of this I can get an idea of the technical side of the person, are they consistent, what they do, what do they enjoy doing, what are their specialties. Then if I were to add that they should bring in a cover letter (I would give specific instructions as to what I would like in the letter) through this letter I could see if they have time for the job, how they write when asked to give more personal info, and what their goals are and to see if the job would help aid them or defer them from those goals!

Post in your blog an audience analysis of job application materials. Use the worksheet in Concise Guide pp. 23-4.
See above answer. …

Post a blog with any questions or concerns you have about the course (i.e., assignments, structure, technologies, etc.).
ARGHHHH I’m so confused, I’m trying to do my best I really am, please tell me, am I getting everything? Simply put. Blogger, is amazingly slow and only oriented on getting a high number of users, rather then friendships, and community. Plus I have trouble logging in due to their incompetence what ever that may be. PAGE flakes. They should still be in Beta! They have features that are unusable and the interface is way to confusing to manage. I give kudos to Blogger for a having a simple layout for those who are not internet savvy. But here is a girl (me) who has made her computer and internet an extension of her self. Like art, comics, cartoons, music, family, etc. and to say that I can not get page flakes and flurl or Furl whatever it’s called was too hard to figure it out!!! Now I must say they are great ideas. But instead of going to that place why don’t I just make my own .html page for my links on my .com that I have and it’s all done. I can edit it anywhere and it’s a simple html cut and paste! Ill keep Furl around but I don't trust them either. They seem too open!!! They need to have their links pages a bit more, personal. People oriented, then with the choice of the user make their page free for others to search etc. Plus I tend to remember all my links by heart, and remember Google is a best friend!!! I named him bob. Online communities I recommend. It depends on what you are looking for. If it’s a web site that helps keep your links organized, I have no idea, and I would need to search for a better one. As for a page that has so many things as Pageflakes, I still have no idea, they are great ideas, but their layout is way to confusing, plain, and ugly, there isn’t enough customization, and it feels to unsafe for me. Right now I am very much into Zaadz http://www.zaadz.com/ This is a site in BETA so be prepared, but so far, I have had little to NO problems. This is a smart online community, they waited long enough so that most bugs were taken care of and BETA for them means, lets see what are users want out of us and lets make it EASY!!! Join ZAADZ and see all of the GREAT stuff you can do!!! You can make a basic user page, it isn’t customizable, yet, but their layout is beautiful yet very simple. You can upload as many photos as you like I’m sure when they are out of beta future users wont get this great plus, so sign up now! Right now loading images is tedious but they make it simple enough that I want to keep going! You can organize your photo albums as well. It’s not perfect but nice :D You can add stuff that you like to zaadz, like books. You can leave a list of favorite books, then after that go through their database of hundreds of books and add the ones you like, want to read, read, and have, or want! And it’s all quickly customizable, and they are still working on making that side even faster! Add your favorite quotes; all of your quotes are now available for other users to add! Add your idea for zaadz, like pizza delivery from zaadz or a savable search! Then get users to join in the idea, post comments about it, and zaadz looks at all of these based on popularity! SEARCH other zaadzters by name, location and or love (love is what that person likes!) I search up, Arizona who loves art all the time! I used to use livejournal all of the time. I met such wonderful people there. I restarted a blog, I don’t know if I will keep it up but it was my first and I like it. Ill add more communities later!

First

test
